About Our Organization

 

The Meta Cultural Development Association USA (MECUDA-USA) is an association of Meta Sons and Daughters based out of Northern California with several branches all over the United States. We are informally related to other Meta organizations around the world.

 

MECUDA-USA seeks to enhance the educational opportunities for the children of the village and raise the standards of living through the development of infrastructure for tribal groups in West Africa. We work closely with the Zang Tabi Traditional counsel to prioritize meaningful projects to improve village life. We also desire to safeguard the cultural heritage of the Meta people and preserve the values that highlight and affirm the Meta' identity for the children of the diaspora.

 

Promoting the social, educational and cultural well-being of the Meta' people are a few of our milestones for success. Anything is achievable through partnership with our various branches as well as the friends of Meta' people.

One of our great proverbs states that "The river lost its way (meandered) because it traveled alone". This is a significant lesson from the Meta’ migratory history that reminds us the Meta’ people working in partnership yield significant achievement rather than "walking alone". Partnerships are the right way, because "Unity is strength" Ifoti ayi ikah.

The Meta' clan (aka Menemo) is located in the North West Region of the West Central African Country of Cameroon.“The Meta' people (Budmita') have a rich and interesting history with a Semi-Bantu language whose origin is traceable to the Benue-Congo subfamily of the Niger-Congo Phylum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-Bantu - Introduction to a social history of the Meta people).”
